Viberg Slides in Natural Chromexcel: Sizing, Leather and Fit

I've got a pair of Viberg Slides in Natural Chromexcel up for grabs in the Boots & More section, and since sizing is the number one question I get about Viberg, I wanted to walk through it before you buy.

The leather: Horween Natural Chromexcel

Chromexcel is Horween's classic pull-up leather, the same family as the brown Chromexcel on my favorite pair of Viberg Service Boots. It's stuffed with oils and waxes, so it ages beautifully and picks up character as you wear it.

Sizing: read this first

This is the big one. These are marked size 7.5, but they fit like an 8.5 in US boot sizes. Viberg recommends sizing down 1.5 sizes on this last, so if you wear an 8.5 in most American boots, these should be your size.

That lines up with what I've found with Viberg in general. They use UK sizing, and their sizing can run large compared to US brands. In my Viberg Service Boot review I talked about how much the last matters too: the 2020 last is narrow, and the 2030 last gives a bit more room. Always check which last a Viberg is built on before you buy.

Why Viberg?

I've owned a lot of boots from a lot of makers, and Viberg's workmanship is about as consistent as it gets. When I compared them side by side with Truman, the stitching was flawless, the insoles were firmly glued, and everything felt sturdy right out of the box. Their designs lean classic and simple, and they tend to stick with tried-and-true leathers like Chromexcel. I go deeper on all of that in this video:

The details

  • Maker: Viberg
  • Leather: Horween Natural Chromexcel
  • Marked size: 7.5 (fits like a US 8.5)
  • Condition: pre-owned
  • Price: $300

Just a heads up: pre-owned footwear is sold as-is and can't be returned (see the Return & Refund Policy), so please double-check the sizing above. If you're unsure, message me before ordering and I'll help you figure it out.

Got other Chromexcel boots?

If you've got lace-ups in Chromexcel, I make kilties in Horween Natural Chromexcel and plenty of other leathers to match. And if your Vibergs fit a little big, a leather insole is an easy fix. Since Viberg uses UK sizing, check my insole sizing guide first: for UK-sized boots, size up a half.
